I recently bought a replacement bladder for my camelbak, unfortunately the smell and taste of rubberised plastic is just unbearable making drinking from it a chore! I decided to experiement with an old wives tale of bicarb and white vinegar. And you know what? It works a treat! Heres how I did it...

put 2 tbs bicarb of soda into camelbak bladder add 200ml white vinegar, careful it'll froth up, add some hot tap water and sluice it around until fizzing stops. Tighten cap and make sure some of the liquid fills the tubes too. Leave for 2 days, wash out with washing up liquid and warm water and dry thoroughly. Hey presto! No smell.... mines a lager

Thanks - having just had a test walk with my new liner I can say the taste is definitely worth trying to get rid of!

Stuffed it full of bicarb and it's stewing now.
