Can anyone tell me how many Tors there are up on Dartmoor and if there is a list of them anywhere on the web?? :)

Take a look at Dave Bellamy's excellent site:

There is a list of every Tor on there - Dave lists 326 Tors and notable hills. You can find tonnes of detail on each one: photos, ratings and maps. That, along with a progress report on Dave's attempt to visit every one!

Thats great thank you... will have a look in a while. Can't believe that there is over 300 .... though i can imagine that this is quite a debatable subject!

We have a map where we mark on where we have been each time we are down visting the moors, I am after a printable list that i could highlight as the map is getting covered in orange spots!

Looking forward to reading Dave's story... Thanks again :D

If you need a book with a list in then you should buy the book "A to Z of Dartmoor Tors" by Terry Bound. Its a great little book with a short note on each tor.

Thanks for the link WITC!

For another great source of information (which I link to on my site), try Tim Jenkinson's excellent Flickr photostream, particularly his "Lesser known tors of Dartmoor" set, here:

You are correct Nesty Crew, it is quite a debatable subject as to what constitutes a tor, but thankfully no-one seems to take it too seriously. The list I came up with 5 years ago has served a purpose in getting a load of friends together for some enjoyable walks, so that's all that matters to me really. I could probably remove quite a few from the list, and there are some that definitely need adding. When I have some spare time I'll do some housekeeping on the site!

Dave .... your site is amazing! I have had a quick peek... but i am going to save it for my last day off work-tomorrow and spend hours trawling through it :D

I have left the web address with my mum as she'll be just as hooked.

It's going to be added to my favourites ... Happy New Year, and we'll look forward to following your story.

Dave is a good man for making these available, I used his list as a cross-reference when compiling my own last year & walking them all. At the moment my count is based on the "Traditional" dartmoor literature of crossings' etc and I have about 330, of which I've visited 320 odd
