The Daily Telegraph on Saturday ran a feature on the making of War Horse with an associated piece on 'the best of Dartmoor'. Mostly restaurants as it turned out, but also contained a good plug for letterboxing and indeed this very forum!

Sadly I don't have the technology (or if I do I don't know how to work it!).
But the relevant bit is in a section on Hound Tor and runs: 'Look out for 'letterboxes' - grown up treasure trails - hidden between the crevices (see dartmoorletterboxing.org for more information).' May intrigue a few people perhaps...

I saw "THE WAR HORSE" last night. Dartmoor on the big screen was impressive. I didn't recognise all of the setting but I did recognise the RAIN!
I took Nick's advice and caught up with Sherlock Homes on I-player.
I think the war horse did a better job in selling Dartmoor, and the locations seem to have been chosen for there cinematic qualities rather than perhaps ease of access?
So a question "What would be the best setting on Dartmoor to impress, and perhaps tip the balance for someone thinking of coming to experience Dartmoor for themselves?"

Looking forward to seeing 'War Horse'.
Reg - for me the area would stretch from Tavy Cleave to Gt Links.

I was up in that area today visiting Wheal Frederick Mine ruins, before Rattlebrook hill.
