YES! We've done it!

We made it to Cranmere Pool today, via Hangingstone (& the 'frozen' bogs). Might not be that great - but with a 6 & 9 year old in tow, we feel very proud with our 12 miles. It was made even more special as the book and stamp were both there and we were the only ones to sign it today (up until 1pm). It was nice to look back and read all of the comments. A beautiful day on the Moors, what a fabulous place to be!

Very well done to all the family - to take a 6 and 9year old all that way on a bitterly cold day is some achievement. As KK says, they should sleep well tonight and hopefully be up bright and early for school tomorrow  Which way did you go in? I love the place and have been most years since I started boxing, but sadly with the closure of the ring road it is now just a little too far.

Started OP22 and went in via Hangingstone Hill (another place on our 'to do' list) then across and picked up the peat pass and then onwards to Cranmere. We came out via Ockerton Court, which was a little easier to walk. Still smiling and looking through the photos!

Well done for such a challenging walk by anyones standards let alone with youngsters in tow!

You say you started from OP22 - but from whence did you travel to OP22, assuming you did not do so by the ring road!

Well done! I remember being chuffed to bits at finally getting to Cranmere and taking some time to sit down and read the comments of those before. It's a lovely spot and still quite isolated.

OP22 is the one at Hart Tor Frank just past the turn down to Cullever Steps- you may be thinking of OP15. There is just enough space to park a couple of cars there. Its still quite a stroll in to Cranmere from there. I do know a couple of boxers who actually cycle out to OP 15 and walk in from there.

I went in from the north and parked last year at the "Thou shalt not pass!" mark, but was amazed at how far the road went into the moor, and how close it was to the peat cutting that I navigated to (in super thick fog without a GPS, how pleased was I that I found it!).

Without looking at a map, I think it's only about a mile or so from that southern OP where you leave the tarmac? I had similar thoughts about cycling that road section, but after the fog lifted, was glad I didn't and had a lovely walk.

The tarmac 'ring' road actually goes all the way to the southern most OP15. It was great to drive along the road and park there, then just a short walk of about 1.5miles to Cranmere and the surrounding area. I used to park there to even get to Cut Hill via the Black Ridge Peat Pass. Even easier walk to hangingstone and Whitehorse Peat Pass/

Quintens/East Dart Head/Kneesets/etc Some lovely stamps out around there in those days. I did manage to get out to Cranmere one last time just before they dug up the road at OP22. Had a memorable last long day there, all alone in the wilderness. How I miss it already!

Very impressive especially with the kids!!! My son (5) has had more than enough after a few miles! Sounds like a wonderful day :)
