What is the point?

What is the point of picking up dog poo into a bag and then leaving the bags strewn around the moors? :?

We were down at the Haytor rocks on Saturday and there were dog poo bags EVERYWHERE it drives me absolutlely mad (and I have 2 dogs). If you're not going to clear the bag what's the point of putting the poo in it so it'll be there god knows how long??!!

Rant over :D

Glad someone else has experienced this public indecency.

Where I live they hang the bags on trees in public places, in shrubbery alongside pavements, on pavements, in peoples gardens, or just do not bother to pick it up (at night).

If I could catch the culprit - I would follow them home and ram the offending stuff through their letterbox but not in a nice bag, shade of pink or blue!

I regard these ( enter your own descriptive) as nothing better than the poo bags they discard!

OK I know this isn't part of the moors but, related to bad ownership of dogs, we used to have this problem...

Every day we would find a fresh heap of dog mess at the entrance of our drive, obviously from a large dog. My mother mentioned this to me but she wa never catch the culprit, I said leave it to me.

For the next couple of weeks I would wake up early and keep watch from my bedroom window untiol I could identify the owner, the next day I went out and wandered around the block at some silly time of the morning with the idea of coming up on the owner from the "wrong direction".

I caught him and his german shepard, in the process of having a dump right in the entrance of our drive.

"Excuse me" I said, "You do realise there is a 'dog area' just down the road, and that the owners of this property are fed up with clearing up after your dog, and are you going to pick that mess up?"

The answer was what I expected "No"

The man started to bluster "Do you realise who I am? I am Major..." at which point I cut him off with tirade of swearing, threats and promises of every lump of dog mess I find I would transfer to his house and dump it there. He picked up the mess with a hankerchief (posh eh?) and deposited in the designated bin just down the road.

Oddly he never was seen again... I wonder why?

I do have one thing to point out - we are suffering from the massive amount of preservatives put into pet food... I mean when was the last time you saw a white dog turd?

I walked through Belstone village a little while ago. On (I think) the old chapel was a sign asking that dog owners leave any dog pooh on the moors. It went along the lines of: Don't clear it up, there is enough other animal pooh out there already, and picking up dog pooh and then leaving the bags in the village was not wanted.

(Sorry, poorly worded but you get the gist of it.)

The biggest problem with dog poo is what dogs are fed with. Who remembers white dog poo? Todays dog food contains so much sugar and preservatives it doesn't decompose and not much breaks it down.

I would like the mess cleaned up by dog owners and disposed of properly and I think this is partially down to DPNA to assist in this by providing dog poo bins at strategic points on access points to the moor. But, having said that, educating the owners and prosecution of offenders who chuck bags into trees and over fences with community work as a punishment

I am all for that - the Community work being :down on knees with a bucket and scrubbing clean the soiled areas of pavement etc. , and a 'shaming' plackard on their back. Dream on!

Not in a month of Sundays will anything be done in this country - if they cannot protect Society from a known hate Preacher for ten years what chance catching dog poo droppers! LOL
