Hi, last year there was a bit of a meet, or so I was told at Fur Tor (South) on New Years Day. So myself and Reg trudged over there to meet one other group (The Nesty Crew?) Apparently people stayed away because it "was raining" HOWEVER I read later on the forum that the more hardy walkers all headed to Fur Tor NORTH to arrive at 12.00, is this an annual task or does the venue move?

THANKS in anticipation, and HAPPY NEW YEAR. Reg the BULLMASTIFF.

Happy New Year Reg. There are 2 New Years day meets. The one you mention at Fur tor south and the pilgramage to Fur Tor North. The south one is for the less able walkers or those who have other things to do on the day (families etc). I went a couple of years back and it was great. Must have been about 50 people all milling about sharing one day stamps and a bit of the 'hard stuff'. At about 2ish they all disbanded and went to the Prince of Wales in princetown for more stamps. Think as the weather was so bad last year, thats where you would have found everyone.

The hardier soles trek out from various start points to Fur tor north. The website which was run by Ian Kirkpatrick for the Perambulation seems to not exist at the moment. I was going to refer you to that to see the official photos taken at noon on the day. They dated back over 20years. Ian will be there though, he is one of the stalwarts. In this weather though I doubt many will make it as the bogs and rivers will be full. Whoever goes it will be very, very, wet and hard going.

P.S. JUST HAD EMAIL IN FROM A RELIABLE SOURCE WHICH SAYS:-

In case anyone has not heard - the Fur Tor North annual get together has been cancelled.

MAKES SENSE.
