I've wild camped at Phillpotts Cave, Fur Tor (North), Teignhead Farm and Deep Swincombe. I've always really enjoyed my experiences. I think so much comes down to good weather, good water supply and soft ground! Oh, and avoiding confrontation with local wildlife and farmers. "Above the highest newtake wall" I understand to be the only caveat on wild camping on Dartmoor.
That, and: "Take nothing but photographs. Leave nothing but footprints. Kill nothing but time."

The only rules I have known about camping on the moor is to take everything you bring away with you, unless you are in a designated campsite you must pitch your tent at least 30 meters or more away from the road. Tents are not supposed to remain in one place for more than 24 hours.
I could be wrong... this is what I was told....
Now I have read the link above... I have been corrected on some of what I was previously told... amend 30 metres to 100

I have camped on the slopes of Cut Hill, I lived under a tree for a month but some of the wildest camps I have attended were at numerous music festivals

I have camped at Devils Tor and near Ducks Pool in the past. Only for a night at a time. Highly recommended for peace and quiet. Not if you get easily scared though
I too have had the experience of Glasto and IoW festivals. 8) Messy.
the rest of the family have wild camped out the back of Cosdon Beacon, no artificial lights visible. I chose to just go for an evening walk and then sleep in my own bed.
