Hi all,
Anybody spotted any adders this year?
I used to see a handful every year, but none so far.
Spotted a few grass snakes though...

I have been out on the moor every week this year and haven't seen one.
Now that could mean that I am not very observant or they weren't about - I am hoping it's the latter!

Spotted a juvenile near Hay Tor last weekend. It was crossing a path only a few yards from one of the car parks - a lovely sight!

Chelle has seen one earlier this year which made her scream which in turn made me laugh... I've seen a decent sized grass snake up at Hay Tor, but I'm yet to see an adder on Dartmoor. :( .

No adders, that is excelent news. Hopefully a cold freezing winter will finish the last of them off.

Have only seen two adders on the moors over 20 plus years. One was last year in October near ryders hill, looking for a box and nearly put my hand on it. Luckily it hissed and backed away. The previous one was about 3 years ago coming down from watern tor , lying on a rock in the sun.

Don't go up the Avon Dam area then - notice on tree by car park person bitten by adder early May this year. One dog bitten on tongue, so dog walkers be careful. bracken just starting to sprout so it won't be long before you can't walk over Ryders Rings where they tend to nest.
