Hi All , Was boxing up the the river Lyd yesterday and while putting my hand in to grab a kingfisher letterbox a bright green lizard ran up my arm and took off behind me ( nearly had to change my underwear ).
Any ideas as to what type of Lizard this was ?
I know there bright in the channel Islands , but didn't think they were on the mainland . Any one into Herpetology that could answer this :)
Many Thanks Mark

Hi Mark
Last time I saw one was on the way to Cranmere Pool. I think they are probably the Common Lizard. Have a look at:
The National Trust on Dartmoor
They have a photo of one.

Hi Mark
The Western Green Lizard (Lacerta Bilineata) is native to the Channel Islands, has known populations in Devon and is bright green...
Never seen one myself on the Moor though. Generally its just Common Lizards on Dartmoor, which are brown-green striped.

Small world we live in - nice to chat to you too - Letterboxers are such a friendly bunch. Where else could you sit in the back of your car and chat to 2 complete strangers and end up with so much in common 8) I too have never been down that part of the Lyd before so wasn't used to the terrain. Bit wet, but firm paths can be found on the way up to Doe Tor. Enjoy and hope to see you next week at the meet.
