Thanks for posting these links! The 'sacred arc' concept is fascinating. It really makes you wonder if further stone circles are out there waiting to be discovered. Another reason to get out searching on the North moor!



I think the '100 years older than Stonehenge' line is a little disingenuous. We know roughly when the stones were toppled, but not when the circles were built. Also, most Dartmoor stone circles date from approximately 3000-2000 BC. Radiocarbon dating is helpful, but only been around since the 1940s. Since most Dartmoor remains were discovered, excavated and then reserected a century ago there is nothing to suggest that Sittaford's discovery is older than any other prehistoric antiquities on the Moor, or indeed anywhere at all. A good headline though. Nice to know that Dartmoor has more preserved remains than anywhere else in Britain. Just be careful where you're siting that letterbox now...
