Big Cats on Dartmoor

The Ghost Returns

Lots of coverage on the radio today of a sighting of a big cat like animal on the moor.

Has any one in the group ever seen anything like this or experienced any odd happenings up on the moor.

These are only stories to encourage tourism, anyone can take a photo of a black cat slightly out of focus and with the right background the animal will look bigger - a lot bigger - than it really is!

There were 2 photos in the Daily Mail on Monday.

It looks like a young werewolf to me, although the fact that it is sunny day is a good argument that it's not!

All the best

The first time I saw the photo it looked like a St Bernard.

are there any black sheep on the moor?

Errm, I doubt very much it's 'The Beast of Dartmoor'. I've been walking the moors for over 12 years and have never come across anything sinister apart from a half eaten sheep once, bit wierd that one!

I think as the news says, it could be a wild boar.

I think it's a wild boar. There have been a number of them let loose on the Moor and I don't see any reason why they shouldn't live there successfully.

I agree, it looks more like a wild boar (or with really blurry vision, an elephant ... lol)

I saw somewhere that someone claimed it was their Newfoundland dog. I can well believe that, I used to have an enormous black Briard and she could well have looked like the animal in the photo.

I wonder if they do roam the moors. Several years ago I came across a fresh carcase of a fully grown sheep which had been deboweled. No mess left around the carcase and only one entry point into the chest/stomach cavity. I have never seen anything like it before.

Then go onto the moor when the mist is down if you dare.

peculiar - the number of people who have voted saying that there are big cats on the moor - withonly one post supporting the vote...
