Re: New to letterboxing

I believe the book is available to non 100 club members, the contact details are below. You certainly can geocache with just a map, I know several who started like that and one who does it. There is an addon (Geocaching map enhancements) for the caching map web page that overlays OS 25k maps and sho...

Re: New to letterboxing

Hi and welcome! Buying the book is certainly a good start, but more and more letterboxes are now "Word of mouth" which does make it harder to get into than it used to be. You certainly can just start looking anywhere under rocks, and in some areas (Hound Tor, Saddle and Haytor especially) ...

August - Website interruptions

I've having my house rewired this week and next, so there'll be some downtime I'm afraid. Should be up most evenings, however!

Re: FOUND: Visitor's book (remains)

TTM sounds like a boxers' name rather than the name of a box - someone should be able to confirm that.

Whereabouts did you find it?

It is a lovely walk out there, feels very remote at times.

Better anti-spam measures make this no longer needed, so I'm de-pinning this thread.

Re: Forum problems

Thanks for the idea, Colin - I suspect you're right. I've changed the header back to letterboxing.org - hopefully that resolves the issue. In case anyone's wondering why it's different... The site is hosted at Hennock on Dartmoor - on the end of a rural adsl line. I have a secondary connection which...

Re: Forum problems

Hi Mark, Afraid I can't replicate that - if I click on the 'latest topics' bit on the home page, 'read more' - if I was logged into the forum before, it keeps me logged in. Only thing I can think of is that your browser isn't keeping cookies for the site - so the site doesn't recognise you when you ...

Re: Going on a walk

Hi I went out there a couple of years ago. Parked by the scout hut, then to Ditsworthy Warren, NE to Higher Hartor, then due East to Ducks Pool. Came back and crossed the river a little further north, then followed the track down through Eylesborough. Nice walk, took just short of five hours and cov...

Faster site

I have significantly upgraded the speed of the connection to my server recently. Unfortunately, I still do not have control of the DNS for dartmoorletterboxing so am unable to point the domain to the new IP. I have attempted 2 or 3 times to talk to Tom over the past year or so but have not had any r...

Un-named box removed from Rippon Tor

Found an unmarked box without stamp, looks like a kids' box, in a sorry state - thoroughly soaked. Dates in the watery log from 2010. Located about 50m west of Rippon Tor Trig. Removed it from the moor today as it had become rubbish. Pic attached. IMG_20161020_094046966_HDR.jpg (Not passing forward ...
