Hello. I have two 450s.

I don't believe you can add clues to waypoints as such, certainly not in the field.

However, maybe you could mis-use the geocaching aspect and create a GPX with a clue, perhaps rot13 encrypted, using something like GSAK>

To answer Nik's point: Not everyone might enjoy the physical act of searching for a box. For me, it's more about the walk, history and view than crawling about on all fours searching for tupperware. For others, it's the stamps, supporting the charity or whatever. Maybe there's an idea for a poll the...

I think that's a little insulting, Nik. What you describe may be how some use a gps, just like some people drive into a river by following their car's satnav, but it's not how everyone uses it. And what course? Just like a compass, a gps gives you a direction. It may also give you a map including fo...

The mention of a GPS is a good one. Not to everyone's tastes, and if you're asking to this detail of a sighting compass, it's clear you've got a good idea of what you want, but I find a GPS very useful for navigating as well as keeping track of where I've been. "Where's my car" is always a...

There's a couple of really good free programs that come to mind; http://www.colin-masters.net/dartmoor/letterboxing/index.html is bespoke for letterboxing. It doesn't come with the existing database but you can import it, or add your own using gpx and other formats. Garmin also do a free program cal...

Also confirmed as being there last week: Foxtor, with a Foxglove stamp. This is in an ammo can and the log book has dates going back almost 25 years into the 80s. Long ago ran out of space and a little damp, but the stamp is in good condition despite having been abandoned for a long time. LBT not fo...

Both places seem to rain just as much, but Princetown's better suited and easier to get to, especially for the non-plymouth boxers. It'd be great to see it back there.

Nik - be interested in any reasonably reliable source for that. I've looked and seem to be finding two stories - one what you say, and one saying that the gsm standard that allows sim-free emergency calls is disabled in the uk unless your phone is active on a network. I've also found some info that ...

Well, in summary, you won't get mobile signal everywhere on dartmoor. o2 have (probably) the best coverage. Not enough? Carry another PAYG sim with a few quid on it from another provider (but not one that shares masts, not a lot of point). Even several PAYG sims don't add any weight - but read the T...

One of the most selfish acts on Dartmoor in living memory, as well as a transparent money-grabbing attempt by holding a tor hostage in return for a ransom!

The general view of about five years ago, when I had some links to the industry, were that o2 had about the best coverage throughout the uk. But on Dartmoor there are, and probably always will be, very lage areas uncovered by any mobile signal because, well, there ain't no masts nor enough populatio...

I agree too, and have done the same with smashed boxes although I haven't taken a grid ref and reported based that these were kids boxes with foam stamps and I didn't think they were registered, I probably will in future just in case.

Nik - not that I think this would necessarily be a good thing, but I'm not sure agreement from every box owner would be needed. It is not a huge leap to assume that those who submit their details to the *publically available* book want their boxes published and spread. Putting online is just another...

Re: Turned to the dark side......got me thinking.....

I will bet that there are NO real letterboxers on a GC site doing the same! Why do I say this - because we real letterboxers are dedicated to our 'pastime' and not interested in American orientated A quick search of the geoaching forums tells a different tale, with dartmoor and letterboxing mention...

Not heard of a snake bite kit before, so googled it. This was the first result - some quite horrifying comments! http://thevintagebin.com/Snake-Bite-Kit/M/B000N04H2Y.htm Tip for broken laces; Usually enough spare on the broken one to leave out the lower few loops and just tie the top ones, or you ca...
