The word datum means
“A point, line, or surface used as a reference, as in surveying, mapping, or geology”.
So why have they got them on the Okehampton range?

They are markers, the best known is datum Q near OP15.

Datums

Can anyone tell me what the datums are used for on the Okehampton Range? I am sure they haven’t been put there just for letterboxers to take bearings off them.

I use a Garmin Etrex and I thinks it great, so much quicker especially if you are walking a long distance into the moor. I use it in OS and WGS84 depending whether I am letterboxing or geocaching, I often have to change from one format to another on a walk it only takes a few seconds. The only thing...
