Thanks Nik. I'm the 'new owner' - if a community site has such a thing. It's more of a caretaking role. I too thank Tom for his work in setting this up and hosting it out of his own pocket for so many years. He put in a lot of work on this site over the years, much of it unseen. I also thank Nik for...

Another update. Thanks to Tom supplying the files and Database, I have now setup the old site and copied across the forum database to my server, located near to Hennock and this site is now running on Dartmoor! The internet link is a bit slower, but hopefully it won't make much real difference. I'll...

Most have probably seen in the news about the Trendlebeer fires last week - which I saw from Newton Abbot. Word is that swaling got out of hand and involved the emergency services. I've also had word that there have been some fires closer to Haytor too, but I've not seen them myself. Some awesome dr...

When I did it, two years ago, I was quite glad of the tarmac - fog had come down in august and without it I would have had trouble navigating as I'd never walked that area before, and in fact was the first time I'd ever gone onto those military roads. That was actually the trip that persuaded me to ...

MOD / Willsworthy - Ban of Letterboxes
A while ago I posted here about a supposed ban on geocaches on MOD training areas on Dartmoor, and mooted it may extend to letterboxes: http://www.dartmoorletterboxing.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2745 Got an update. Today, the GAGB (who stirred up this particular wasp's nest in the first place) have p...

Gutter Tor - remains found
Out geocaching around Gutter Tor today and found the remains of a letterbox out in the open. Had been smashed quite comprehensively. Would have been a double pillpot, one grey (inner, I think) and one white (outer). I found and removed about half of the containers in several pieces and both lids. No...

Geocaching banned on dartmoor firing grounds, boxing next?
MOD are applying a national ban on geocaching "on MOD land" in the interests of security/terrorism. Early stages, but it looks like this will apply to the three training grounds on Dartmoor, despite at least two being owned by Duchy and not MOD. I know many of you don't care much for cachi...

Found: The Cornish Gardens: The Japanese Garden
Was walking between Stannon Tor and the Beehive last night. Area had been swaled over winter and I found a letterbox lying out in the open. There was no nearby hole and the outer of two pill pots had been melted. It took some opening with my multitool to reach the intact inner pot, and on opening th...

Used it quite a few times, last on June 2nd, 2012 at the end of the dry spell. Southern end is easy to find, it starts at Goldsmith's cross ( N 50° 30.909 W 003° 57.169 British Grid: SX 61650 70201). Well worn path NNW towards whiteworks buildings. There's a big hump just before the river (N 50° 31....
