Sammy Arnolds Lane
I have looked on the internet and every book I have on Dartmoor but have been unable to ascertain why Sammy Arnolds Lane is so called. Can anyone help me?

No such luck on this one - you should have made this your challenge Gary. I've always known it as Sammy Arnolds Lane since the early 80's when I started boxing. When my son did his Ten Tors one of the manned tents was at 'Sammy Arniolds Lane' - stillhave that walk map somewhere. Will do a bit of digging about this one though and see if I can come up with a reasonable explanation. I'm sure Sammy Arnold must have been a character/farmer/ of the moors to warrant a place name on Dartmoor!!!

Peat cutter brought down countless loads of peat from Dinger Plain for Knack Mine - hence the lane took his name ever since.
