Can anyone provide a quick tutorial (or website with one) on how to set up a gps for use with grid references? I've only used mine in the states with long & lat entries, so not sure what software or settings I need for UK grid numbers use. . .
Thanks

Hi TeamKing, I enquired about this a short time ago, please visit this thread to see the settings that we all seem to be using. viewtopic.php?t=914

Settings
Ahhh. Great. I scanned the old messages, but somehow missed the settings in the post. Thanks.
Interesting to set it up from North America. My variance was 007 instead of 004. But it eventually changed after being outside for a few minutes.
Since I'm not in UK, the location comes us as:
-- -----
BNG -----
So, does that mean SK or another code will come up in the 2 digit space on the top line? What about the 5 digit lines? Should I assume a zero/zed at end of 4 digits? Or just another number to get even more accurate location? If someone has a full number I could put in, I'd like to see if I can pull it up from here. I have a Garmin - if it makes a difference.
Thanks.

Re: Settings
I'm new to using a GPS so maybe someone here might be able to enlighten you more than me. You mentioned "Since I'm not in UK", are you still abroad at the moment?TeamKing wrote:

Thanks.
I also have the Garmin Etrex (yellow one), I have plotted a number of boxes for my next walk just to try it out. Reading one of the GPS bearing it comes up like this:
SX 56005
BNG75506
This should put you around Little Mis Tor area.
If anyone is wondering, I've changed the bearings slightly in case of any letterbox thiefs!

Thanks Dizzy. Looks like I'm on track with the correct settings. Will just have to wait until I'm within UK so that actual grid numbers come up on it.
Thanks!
Thanks!
