Damaged letter box, belstone

Good morning
Just wanted to report a damaged letter box that we found in area of Belstone. The lid had been left off and book soaked. Stamp still intact. It was 'Sherlock Holmes, silver blaze. 1892 - 1992 no 13473.
I have only just started letter boxing so did not know the etiquette and left it alone. We do not know if this is a registered or private letterbox but thought we would make you aware.
We did tuck box back undercover.
